LIT UP! 2024 Silent Auction

Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan (Foundations Learning) is a non-profit organization with a long history as a local literacy organization. Literacy remains as important today as it was in 1979 when Foundations Learning was established. With almost 45 years of volunteer-driven, community-based experience, Foundations Learning understands that a person’s earnings, health, work, and education opportunities are directly related to their literacy skills.

We’re asking you to support our work by becoming involved in our premier event's silent auction. Start bidding on April 25th and find out on the night of LIT UP! (May 2nd) if you had the winning bid.

Not coming to the event? Don't worry! This silent auction is open to anyone who wishes to support literacy and learning! We will coordinate with you to ensure you receive your purchase.

About Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan

Increasing the province’s levels of numeracy and literacy in both adults and children will improve the economic opportunities for people across the province, preparing them for good jobs across industries and disciplines and helping grow Saskatchewan for the future.

In partnership with trained volunteers, like-minded organizations, and corporations, Foundations Learning creates opportunities and transforms the lives of community members through free, proven literacy programs delivered in and with the community.

We are committed to providing foundational literacy, learning, and skills development for adults, children, and families through the work of staff, trained volunteers, and community partners. Last year we worked with 3,000 people, 191 volunteers, 241 community partners, and 64 communities.

Meet Dave
Dave needed to transition his career. He and his literacy coach were matched in Lead, our adult literacy program. After his workplace injury, he set a goal to attend Saskatchewan Polytechnic, but he needed to pass the math section of the GED test before he could be accepted. Dave is 58 years old.

After a few months of hard work, Dave accomplished his goal. He is now looking for employment opportunities that were not available to him before achieving his GED: "My favourite thing about Lead is the outcome - I got what I wanted! I got the support that I wanted. I wasn't put on the back burner because of my age."

Meet Cienna who is in Grade Three
“Since being in the program, I use the bookmark – strategies … I am a pretty good reader now. I like to read books on my own. I started reading a book you sent me – Diary of an Ice Princess. I've read the first chapter already. It is my first chapter book that I've read on my own.”

Meet Carol’s Family
“We tend to forget and don’t think about our learning when we are teaching our children, but this program made us think about Carol’s learning and our own and we get to be part of her learning. I also love the activities that we got to do that we can easily do at home.”

Meet Majok
“I learned so much, especially about savings and how to properly use a credit card. Didn't realize how much interest builds up if not paid in full each month. Best to pay off loans with the high interest rates - the power-pay method of the credit workshop. There’s always something to learn to help for my future."
