Holiday Gala and Silent Auction
In honor of the Curran Apple Orchard’s 25th anniversary as a park, UP for Arts is commissioning a life-sized bronze sculpture of a little girl offering an apple to a horse entitled “Forever Friends” by artist John Jewell. The Curran Apple Orchard is a beloved park in University Place attracting thousands of residents and visitors each year. Prior to cityhood in 1995, University Place was a rural area filled with orchards, horses grazing in fields and only a few hundred residents and the Curran Orchard became a popular community gathering spot. People would stop by and purchase apples while children walking home from school enjoyed visiting the horses and feeding them apples. Today, the orchard continues to bring our community together through various events.
About UP for Arts
UP for Arts began in 2000 with a small group of volunteers interested in bringing public art to University Place. Our partnership with the City of University Place has resulted in several public art pieces including “Sharing” by John Jewell; “The Eagles’ Nest” by Douglas Granum; and “One Step Ahead” by Georgia Gerber. In May, 2015 “Between Sea and Sky” by Michelle Gutlove was installed in the Civic/Library Atrium.
