Nye Beach Banner Auction

The banners hung outside from June-October and show some wear and extra character. The first two photos show what the banner currently looks like, the second two what it like in June.

To see all the banners, click on ‘All Items’. To learn more about the banner and see additional images, click on the individual banner. Each banner has 4 below the first image. You can enlarge the images by clicking while hovering over the image. ***The first two images are what the banner currently looks like (you can see the rope used to hang it on the light poles).

Banners can be picked-up after November 16. We will send an email at the end of the auction with pickup times. Banners that are being shipped will go out on November 16.

Now in its 14th year, the Nye Beach Banner Project celebrates Nye Beach as the 'Art Heart' of Newport, beautifies the coastal neighborhood, and highlights the creative talents of community artists, while raising funds for Youth Art programs, sponsored by the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts. The Banner Project is a program of the Nye Beach Merchants Association. The Association provides the banners for the artists, who donate their time and talents. They are encouraged to depict some element of Nye Beach -music, dance, acting, writing, art, architectural elements, natural elements- on one side; and a quote on the other side that is thought-provoking or smile-inducing, or simply ‘Nye Beach’.

Artists were welcomed to create a banner based on the additional theme - Solidarity with Ukraine.

Eight banners are part of the third year of banner exchanges with Newport’s Sister City, Mombetsu, Japan. The Banner Art Project helps to grow the connection between cities by trading four Newport banners for four Mombetsu banners.

During this year’s Banner Project, 44 adult artists donated their creative talents along with 13 youth artists, 2 individual artists from Japan, the Mombetsu High School Art Club (3rd grade) and 1st & 2nd grade).

“We honor and thank every artist involved with the banner project over the years,” says project founder Veronica Lundell. “They have helped to build a strong youth-arts program through OCCA at the VAC.”

The Nye Beach Banner Project extends its special thanks to Jan Titgen, Cathey Briggs, Anjanette Baker, Wendy Engler, Peggy Hawker (Sister City Banner Exchange program), Sara Heimlich (m0mZb0 Designs), Veronica Lundell (Jovi), Sharon Nieukirk, Carol Shenk, Sara Siggelkow, Barbara Turill, Janet Webster, The Nye Beach Merchants Association, Pacific Digital Works, Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) the Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC) and the Visual Arts Education Committee
