SKATE OF THE ART 2021

BID ON WONDERFULLY PAINTED DECKS IN SUPPORT OF BRIDGEWATER SKATEPARK

Local artists are contributing their talents in support of the Bridgewater Skatepark through an online “Skate of the Art” auction of skateboard decks Saturday, August 28 at 2 pm. You are on the right website for bidding!

You can view the decks 'in person' in the spacious Galleria (foyer) of the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC) in Bridgewater beginning at 1 pm (following LCLC covid protocols). The LCLC is located at 135 North Park St. not far from Michelin. There is a map on this page: https://www.lclc.ca/about/introduction .

The auction is hosted by the Town of Bridgewater, with the participation of the Friends of the Bridgewater Skatepark Society.

Many thanks to the DesBrisay Museum for exhibiting a selection of the decks prior to the auction.

The 8500 sq. ft. (788 sq. m) Bridgewater Skatepark was built by the Town of Bridgewater and is part of the of the Town's park system. It's at 500 York St., just around the corner from the LCLC.

The Skatepark includes a concrete plaza with multiple transitions, including wall, stair, ledge, bank and shotcrete features in addition to flat work.

The Town provided the lion's share of the initial $568,000 capital costs, with significant contributions from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Province of Nova Scotia. Funders have also included Michelin, BMI and Scotiabank. In 2019 several local businesses took the lead in adding a much-appreciated shelter to the Park.

The Friends of the Bridgewater Skatepark non-profit was formed in 2019 to help raise operating and capital funds for the Park. Through skateboard competitions organized by Morgan DéMone, the non-profit has raised over $1000 for the Park, plus provided a supplementary channel for communication between Park users and the Town.
