Crayons Matter at The O’Brien Gallery

Crayons Matter provides much needed school supplies such as crayons, paper, and backpacks to children in struggling regions of Africa and other global and local communities (Greensboro, too!) Our goal is deliver 800 backpacks filled with supplies and art to Ghana and local communities.

Our fundraiser will be held at the The O’Brien Gallery in Greensboro, NC on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 6-8pm.

With your help, I am hoping to include one piece of art in each backpack created by children in our local communities. So far, I have about 125 pieces of wonderful art, but need many more pieces to ensure that every backpack is touched by a child from the United States.

This is not only a wonderful opportunity for a local child to share art with a global child, but this may be a way to educate and help our own children better understand the needs of children in other countries that do not have crayons, paper, and backpacks

Crayons Matter background Information:

Our Cause: In 2011, Brad and I (Courtenay Fields) had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Africa where we discovered the importance of educating children globally on the basics of health and hygiene through creative thinking. After teaching children in the Volta Region of Ghana and then traveling with Brad to Tanzania to see first-hand the importance of supplying children with basic school supplies like crayons and paper, this incredible experience motivated us to seek out partnerships with schools in Ghana with the goal of delivering essential school supplies to children in need.

Our Hope: Through Crayons Matter, our hope is that we can educate children globally on personal health and hygiene while inspiring their imaginations through crayons and basic school supplies. No child should go without a pack of crayons that they can call their own – Thank you for joining us on our journey to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and grow through inspired thought.

Our Live Crayons Matter Art Auction bidding will be in person at The O’Brien Gallery on May 19th, 6-8pm.
