About Our Auction

The Captain John Palliser Parents Association and our community have been fundraising to build our Inclusive and Naturalized Playground for the last three years. This is a huge undertaking as our project will require us to raise $500,000. We have sold Spirit Wear, Chocolates and Gift Cards, run Bottle Drives and written cheques to support our cause. This is truly a community effort! Now our wonderful students and teachers have created works of art to auction here in the hopes of raising more funds towards our Playground Project.

In so many ways a Playground is the heart of a school community. An Inclusive and Naturalized Playground encourages children to play together throughout the day, families to linger and chat in the playground just before and after school, and creates a gathering place for our greater community. COVID-19 has negatively affected the use of this space and with it our sense of connection to one another and the school. We know that as we move forward and children are once again encouraged to play together the playground will be a welcome space for our once-vibrant community to come to life again. Please help us make our Playground Project a reality!

About Captain John Palliser Parents Association

The Captain John Palliser Parents Association is incorporated under the Societies Act for the purpose of raising funds to enhance learning at Captain John Palliser School (CJP). Our current priority is to support enrichment of children’s school experience through the development of an inclusive playground and naturalized play and learning space. CJP offers a community program and Montessori alternative program, both under the Calgary Board of Education. They also support students with visual impairments and learning disabilities. Over 530 students attend CJP representing a broad spectrum of neuro-physically diverse abilities.

The current playground at CJP is over 20 years old and is nearing the end of its usable life. It’s showing its wear over many years of joyful play and is proving to be insufficient and inaccessible for our large and diverse student population and surrounding community members. The Discovery Gardens, a naturalized space adjacent to the playground, needs revitalization and will expand learn and play opportunities by creating a quiet space to reflect, gather, explore and deepen connections with the land.
