Bowling for Rhinos 2021

American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) Jacksonville has been holding "Bowling for Rhinos" bowl-a-thons since 1990 to raise money to support all 5 threatened or endangered rhino species in Africa and Indonesia. 100% of proceeds from these events goes directly to supporting protection units for rhinos as well as supporting and protecting all the wildlife in the rhino habitats as well as the surrounding communities!

There are AAZK chapters across North America joining in these efforts and since its inception Bowling for Rhinos has been able to raise over $8.5 million for conservation! AAZK Jacksonville has been fortunate enough to have amazing supporters each year. Since 1990 we have been able to raise $209,580 for BFR! We are #10 in the country for all time BFR fundraisers and have been in the top 4 for the last few years. Wildlife poaching is on the rise - especially because of the recent pandemic that has left giant voids in tourism money that often funds protection units in certain regions. Local people surrounding rhino habitats have also been impacted by the pandemic shutdowns and are unfortunately turning to poaching to support themselves and their families. Many cultures still believe that rhino horn holds medicinal purposes even though this has NEVER been scientifically proven!

AAZK Jacksonville typically holds a two-night bowl-a-thon, which will be held at Bowl America on Beach Blvd, August 6th and 7th. Instead of our wildly popular two silent auctions at the event, we are holding one incredible online auction where anyone around the world can bid on incredible items from the comfort of their homes. Items will be available to preview during the in-person events. More information will be available when plans are finalized. The American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) is a membership association for animal care professionals. As a Non-profit 501c (3) organization one hundred percent of the funds raised goes towards conservation and the professional development of our keepers.

AAZK is dedicated to advancing animal care, promoting public awareness, enhancing professional development and contributing to local and global conservation through fundraising and stewardship. Our goal is to inspire and motivate through our roles as animal caregivers, educators and conservationists.
