About Our Auction

The Alaska Avalanche Information Center (AAIC) provides direct administrative and operational support to four Regional Avalanche Centers in Alaska, including Valdez, Haines, Eastern Alaska Range, and Cordova. The support received is critical in maintaining Alaska’s statewide avalanche resource hub through online access to forecasts and data which allow those who live, work, travel, and recreate throughout Alaska’s mountainous terrain to make educated safety decisions. In addition to available online resources, the support and funding we receive allows us to continue to offer avalanche safety education throughout the state to a diverse group of users. Public education and outreach are the primary tools we have to create a cultural shift towards safety. This fundraiser directly supports easy access to the technology necessary to share snow, weather, and avalanche information which together, save lives.

About Alaska Avalanche Information Center

The Alaska Avalanche Information Center (AAIC) strives to increase public awareness and safety through avalanche education, research, and the networking of avalanche professionals. The AAIC is dedicated to promoting safety in and around avalanche terrain throughout the state of Alaska by providing access to informational resources and educational opportunities. The organization currently supports four independent regional avalanche forecast centers in Alaska: Valdez, Haines, Eastern Alaska Range, and Cordova. Our mission to support and promote avalanche forecasts, education, research, professional development, and networking of practitioners in the pursuit of healthy lifestyles and the reduction of unintentional injury and death is central to all activities and guides our operations.

The AAIC information platform provides a familiar standard found throughout the industry. As a world-renowned destination for winter backcountry use it is essential that visitors and residents alike know how and where to access critical information to make informed decisions throughout Alaska’s mountains. Alaska currently ranks second per capita in the nation for avalanche fatalities. The work being done by the AAIC meets the highest industry standards to continue to offer the vital resources to reduce avalanche accidents and the associated injuries and fatalities. The AAIC continues to maintain the highest standards for avalanche forecasting, education, and safety by following the standards set forth by the American Avalanche Association, National Avalanche Center, and the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education.
