VYP Rotaract Club for Shoebox Project

Dear VYP Rotaractors,

It's time to bring out your talents, knowledge, and skills for an auction in support of local women in critical need!

For Christmas this year we will be supporting the Shoebox project again but in a COVID-friendly way.

How can you make an impact?

-To raise money, we would like to challenge each of our club members to put up something you have personally created or a (COVID safe) service/experience you can provide up for auction. Please start brainstorming ideas of what you could provide. We will be discussing this at our next club meeting on Monday, November 2nd. The silent auction to help us fundraise will run from December 1st to 8th online (there may also be a live component). Further details to be announced as we move forward into the holiday season.

What is the Shoebox Project?:

-The Shoebox project typically consists of our members putting together boxes of self care products (total value of $50) to give to local women in need. These are women who have been displaced from their homes or estranged from their families. The shoeboxes also usually include an encouraging note to these women. This all reminds them that they are not alone during the holiday season and provides a sense of community, care and connection.

What has changed this year?

-We usually donate about 15 shoeboxes per year so our fundraising goal is $750 +!

-Due to current circumstances of the world, the Shoebox project has gone virtual this year. We would still like to support them by making a group donation to go towards providing virtual shoeboxes: 100% of the $ raised will go to women in need in our local community.

-We can no longer get together and have cider while we wrap these beautiful gifts, but we can still have fun in the process!

Why should you participate?

-We want to support local women in need in our community!

-The purpose of your donation of goods or services is for fun and to foster relationship building amongst our club and other Rotaractors. We encourage "fun", small items that you have created or can provide yourself without too much hassle. You can provide the item yourself or as a group. For example: a homemade scarf, 2 dozen of your grandma's famous gingerbread cookies, raking leaves, teaching someone else a new skill (ex. a photography lesson), etc.

We are looking forward to seeing what everyone will come up with for auction and look forward to supporting the Shoebox project again together!

We are a group of young professionals that care deeply about three things: 1) giving back to our communities, 2) building our professional networks, and 3) strengthening our friendships. As part of Rotary International, we leverage their network to support our three goals. We meet regularly to socialize, learn, network and organize volunteer/philanthropic projects.
