About Our Auction

All net profits from our fundraiser will go to the Newo Yotina Friendship Centre (NYFC). The January 18th announcement from the Government of Saskatchewan removed all provincial funding for harm reduction supplies and education materials despite these efforts being proven to save lives and prevent infectious diseases like HIV and Hepatitis. Since this change NYFC has since been rationing their supplies and paying for these supplies themselves. This fundraiser is aimed at replacing some of the funding for life-saving harm reduction supplies.

Further, NYFC is a non-profit organization that supports urban Indigenous people and families living within the City of Regina. NYFC is a proud member of the Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan and the National Association of Friendship Centres. Friendship Centres are Canada’s most significant off-reserve Indigenous service delivery infrastructure and are the primary providers of culturally enhanced programs and services to urban Indigenous residents. For over half-a century, Friendship Centres have been facilitating the transition of Indigenous people from rural, remote and reserve life to an urban environment. For many Indigenous people, Friendship Centres are the first point of contact to obtain referrals to cultural based socio-economic programs and services.

About Students for Harm Reduction and Informed Policy

Students for Harm Reduction and Informed Policy (SHRIP) is a ratified student group of the Student Medical Society of Saskatchewan (SMSS). SHRIP was established in 2020 in response to Saskatchewan’s rapidly increasing drug toxicity, homelessness, and food insecurity crises.
SHRIP quickly became the largest and most active student group at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine. SHRIP is comprised of 52 medical students – approximately 13% of all medical students studying at USask. At the 2022 Fall SMSS Awards banquet, SHRIP was honoured to be recognized as ‘Student Group of the Year’ after a college-wide vote.
The mission of SHRIP is to:
1. Collaborate with and support local community-based organizations (CBOs).
2. Provide educational opportunities to Saskatchewan’s future physicians on substance use disorders and harm reduction principles via experts and those with lived or living experience.
3. Engage and educate the Saskatchewan public on the benefits and necessities of harm reduction practices in our province through a politically neutral lens.
4. Advocate for evidence-based public health policies
