About Our Auction

Outsiders and Others is a non-profit art society with a focus on bringing non-traditional artists to the forefront. This includes outsider, folk, self-taught, visionary, intuitive, and artists with disabilities.

We opened in March 2020 at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in order to bring new art and culture to our community on a regular basis when no one else was. We knew we had to do this to help us all survive the world standing still.

In our first year we have worked hard to produce a new exhibition every month; generally featuring artists that have never shown their work before; have sold over 75 pieces of original art; and we paid the artists an exhibition honourarium. We need your help so we can do more.

We are a window art gallery so we have our lights on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that includes a QR code you can scan with your phone and go to our website.

This month we are celebrating our first anniversary with a special exhibition featuring artists from all of our previous exhibitions, and having this fundraiser.

We are raising money for paying artist honourariums, gallery rent, insurance, and all expenses related to running our non-profit art society.

All the auction items have been donated by supportive artists and organizations who understand the value of giving underserved artists the opportunity to have their artwork seen. We can’t thank them enough for caring and choosing to support our fundraiser.

Thank you for taking the time to support our fundraiser and for your interest in Outsiders and Others!

About Outsiders and Others Art Society

Outsiders and Others is a non-profit art society established in March of 2020. Our mission is to bring non-traditional artists to the forefront. This includes self-taught artists, outsider, folk, visionary, intuitive, and artists with disabilities.

As a non-profit Art Society that serves self-taught, outsider and non-traditional artists, we are having a difficult time getting the funding necessary to continue serving these artists and bringing you quality exhibitions every month featuring artists work you generally won't find at other galleries.

Besides presenting monthly exhibitions at our East Hasting gallery and bi-monthly exhibitions at our Howe Street window gallery, we do lots of work to directly support artists that you may not know about. This includes offering free one-on-one consultations to artists who identify as living with a disability or artists with mental health concerns; we assist artists with framing their artwork for an exhibition when a financial barrier exists; and we mentor artists through the entire process.

Additionally, our gallery is a safe and welcoming space for outsider artists to come view and discuss art or to review books in our growing outsider art book library.

Outsiders and Others is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), QayQayt First Nation, Kwantlen, q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie), Semiahmoo, Tsawwassen First Nations, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), and Stó:lō Nation. We are grateful and honored to be here.
