About Our Auction

The 18th Annual Best of Plein Air juried art show will open online with this pre-gallery-opening silent auction, Monday, February 28th at 10:00 am PST. The special auction pricing starts at 80% of the gallery price, which provides LPAPA art collectors with the opportunity to add a special plein air painting to their collection at a potential 20% savings!

Proceeds generated through the sale of art work supports the artists and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art organization.

The auction ends at 8:00 pm PST on Thursday, March 3rd, during the gallery opening reception, after the 7pm awards presentation. The auction has a buy-now feature to encourage friendly competitive buying, and added support for nonprofit LPAPA, and gives you the ability to secure your purchase before the gallery show opens. All artwork is sold framed.

The artwork included in the online auction features all of the top scoring juried "finalist" paintings eligible for awards judging and exhibited at the LPAPA Gallery in Laguna Beach. In addition, the top scoring semi-finalists are also included in this year’s auction.

If you are in or near Laguna Beach, please plan to join us at the LPAPA Gallery for a special Art Walk Gallery Reception & Awards Presentation on Thursday, March 3rd, 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Awards to be announced at 7:00 pm. The awards presentation will also be live-streamed through LPAPA’s Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/LagunaPleinAir).

The Best of Plein Air Online and Gallery Exhibitions and sales continue through Monday, April 4, 2022. The LPAPA Gallery is located in Laguna Beach at 414 N. Coast Highway, between Jasmine and Myrtle Streets on Gallery Row. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 6pm - 9pm the First Thursday of each month. We are also available by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and alternative hours.

About Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA)

The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art organization that was originally founded in Laguna Beach in 1996 by five artists -- Ken Auster, Jacobus Baas, Cynthia Britain, Saim Caglayan, and John Cosby -- with a mission to preserve the history of the plein air movement of 19th century California, to support the tradition as it exists today, and to foster a network among plein air painters nationwide.

LPAPA is considered the stewards of Laguna’s plein air painting legacy, which helped establish our town as an artists’ colony more than a century ago. Early plein air artists -- Edgar Payne, Frank Cuprien, Anna Hills, William Wendt, and other now famous artists -- founded the original Laguna Beach Art Association and opened the first art gallery in 1918. The permanent collection they started later established the town’s museum. LPAPA is committed to continuing the outdoor painting tradition and preserving the Laguna Plein Air Painting legacy.

LPAPA's mission includes career opportunities and education programs to help enhance the livelihood of our artist members and community, as well as educate and inspire the next generation of artists to continue the legacy.

Your support keeps the Laguna plein air painting tradition and legacy --- past, present and future alive! Thank you!
