About The Company:

Ivy Baldwin Dance, formed in 1999 by NYC-based choreographer, performer, and teacher Ivy Baldwin, is a company dedicated to the creation and performance of new contemporary dance. Baldwin works collaboratively with the dancers and designers of IBD to give form to the quirks of the human experience—the tragedies and trials; the constancy of loss and love; our often comic vulnerability as we walk around in delicate skin-shells, a tender package of failings and fears and fragile organs. Seeking to understand these common and visceral human experiences through abstraction is a theme in Baldwin's work. Described by critics as a "hunter-gatherer sort of choreographer", Baldwin deconstructs and compresses the disparate elements of place, personhood, and the emotional extremes that bind them together—life's underbelly of uncertainty.

Since its inception, Ivy Baldwin Dance has been presented by New York Live Arts, Dance Theater Workshop, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, New Museum of Contemporary Art, The Chocolate Factory, Dixon Place, Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Symphony Space, CATCH in P.S. 122's COIL Festival, and La MaMa E.T.C, among others. The Company has toured nationally and internationally including: Tanz im August in Berlin, Germany, Dans Contemporan International Dance Festival in Bacau, Romania, REDCAT, Irvine Barclay Theater, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and Appel Farm Arts and Music Center in NJ.
