About Isthmus Montessori Academy

Isthmus Montessori Academy is Madison’s only AMI-accredited Montessori school. Located on the “Madison crescent” on the Northeast side, IMA is dedicated to helping children achieve their greatest success, develop independence, and live with genuine kindness. We currently enroll students from ages 2 months to 15 years old in infant, toddler, primary, elementary, and adolescent programs.

Since its founding as a nonprofit in 2012, IMA has been working to become Madison’s public AMI Montessori school option. We believe that the Montessori method can benefit all children, regardless of background or economic status. Public Montessori programs have been shown to help close the opportunity gap which economic disparity produces. The Montessori curriculum is supported by the latest developments in cognitive science. It has been used continually since Dr. Maria Montessori pioneered it in her first classroom in Rome in 1907. The Montessori curriculum exceeds the Common Core standards adopted by the majority of US schools, and helps children to thrive both academically and personally.
