About Our Auction

Gifts sold in this auction will provide funds for emergency relief as well as long term support to survivors of natural disasters. Although Church World Service offers support to all families, this project specifically is concerned with assisting migrant families who have meager incomes, are marginalized and struggle to have funds to repair their homes, purchase basic household items and regain some sense of normalcy after a natural disaster.
Funds will also be provided to the InterFaith Council for Social Services here in Chapel Hill-Carrboro to provide emergency shelter, food assistance and other services for families and individuals who qualify.

About United Church of Chapel Hill

Auction: God's Bidding 2019

This is the 10th year that the Alternative Market has included an on-line auction, called "God's Bidding." The auction represents gifts/donations from dozens of church members who offer their time, service, talents, or beautiful objects and vacation homes to help raise money for local and international poverty relief. When members, friends and others "win" these items through generous bidding, the money they pay goes not to the donor but to selected projects that help give people immediate relief from desperate situations caused by poverty, and opportunity to move out of poverty.

The goal for God's Bidding 2019 is $12,000 and the proceeds will be split between the IFC (Inter Faith Council, which supports people with a variety of needs in our community) and CWS (Church World Service).

Church World Service (CWS)
UCCH is raising funds to provide long-term relief to survivors of natural disasters. While CWS offers support to all families, this project is specifically concerned about helping migrant families with meager incomes who are marginalized and struggle to repair their homes, purchase basic household items and regain some sense of normalcy after a natural disaster.

IFC: Inter-Faith Council for Social Services
The IFC helps families in our community dealing with: food, job, and housing insecurity.

In 1963, a group of seven local people united their volunteer efforts to address the conditions of poverty in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. The Inter-Faith Council was created, “to discover unmet needs and to respond through the coordinated efforts of volunteers.” Since that time IFC has developed: alternative housing, job coaching, free health clinics,
safe shelter, community services, advocacy, legal advice, and food pantry.
