About Our Auction

Celebrating the Past, Preserving the Future

For 226 years, Georgetown's residents have gathered at the City Tavern for brew, business, and fellowship. You are invited to the City Tavern Club to celebrate the holiday season and support the preservation of this important historic site.

The City Tavern, constructed in 1796 in the bustling port of Georgetown, served our country's founding generation. In 1800, when the new city of Washington, east of Rock Creek, was declared the nation's new capital, it did not have structures to meet the country's needs. The elegant, four-story brick City Tavern in the heart of Georgetown housed and hosted America's early leaders for governmental receptions, business meetings, and more.

The City Tavern Preservation Foundation welcomes your support to preserve this historic Georgetown site, the last remaining Federal-era tavern in Washington and microcosm of life in the early American republic.
