Art Fiddles for the Calgary Fiddlers Association

The CFA online auction of nine Art Fiddles will support the essential annual touring that makes the Calgary Fiddlers one of the most respected youth music education programs. Funds raised will also support bursaries for fiddlers whose families are unable to afford tuition or touring fees. Engaging professional guest clinicians to provide invaluable experience for our youth musicians. We need your support to keep our toes tapping by ensuring funding for ongoing expenses not covered by tuition.

All Art Fiddles have been created and donated by working artists. These original artworks may be viewed April 2-14 in the main floor Gallery area of the Calgary Public Library, Central Library at 616 Macleod Trail SE.

About Calgary Fiddlers Association

The Calgary Fiddlers Association (CFA) is a not-for-profit offering unique opportunities for a high level of training in the art of folk fiddle and technical development specific to fiddling and performance excellence. For nearly 35 years, the CFA has empowered youth musicians ranging in age from seven through eighteen with the love of music and the desire to share it with local communities and beyond.
Our vision is to develop life skills in our young students such as leadership, confidence, discipline, and time management, and an appreciation for the Canadian heritage of folk fiddling; all acquired with exposure to local and international performance experiences, while promoting and preserving the art of fiddle music.
The Calgary Fiddlers (the flagship group under the CFA umbrella) are a musically gifted, world renowned group of young people aged 14 to 18 who love to perform. Their rigorous training schedule includes weekly private and group coaching sessions in addition to performing at over 100 public and private functions each year, and touring annually.
In 1993, the CFA established a "farm team" called The Bow Valley Fiddlers to better prepare students entering the Calgary Fiddlers touring group. These highly skilled groups perform throughout Calgary at festivals, seniors' homes, fundraisers, schools and concert halls.
Both The Calgary Fiddlers and The Bow Valley Fiddlers are known for their dynamic performances of traditional and original fiddle tunes in an innovative and youthful style.
The unique training is offered by a passionate team of musicians with a classical violin background and extensive experience in the fiddle genre.

Live Event Information

These beautiful Art Fiddles will be live auctioned on Sunday May 1 at the Ironwood Stage and Grill as part of the Calgary Fiddlers' Sweet on Fiddlin' Shows. The highest bidder from the online auction will be the opening bid and can either submit a proxy bid (and have a volunteer bid up to that maximum amount on their behalf), or be in real-time phone contact while a volunteer bids for you with your instructions. You may also attend one of the shows, of course, and be in for a real treat. (Each fiddle description will have show information and whether it will be auctioned at the afternoon or evening show). If you are the winning bid, we will contact you and make arrangements that suit you. Just be sure to indicate the best number to reach you on April 30 around noon. We will make it work for you!

There are two shows: 1 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are $30 and available online at www.CalgaryFiddlers.com. There will be four fiddles auctioned at the 1 pm show ("Stampede", "Plums", "Of Mountains, Cowboys and Horses", "Cigar Box Fiddle") and five at the evening show ("Violin Skeleton", "Steampunk Fiddle", "Il Violino d'Oro", "Bouquet de Plumes, "Fiddler in the Wood"").

These unique art pieces will also be on exhibition at the April 2-14, Calgary Public Library, Central Library, 616 Macleod Trail SE in the main floor lobby gallery.
