The Dorset Equine Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Dorset, Vermont. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abused, neglected, and at-risk horses. 

We rescue horses from a variety of situations, including owner surrenders due to illness, financial hardship, divorce, foreclosure, or the loss of a loved one. By providing a safe alternative, we help both horses and the people who love them while preventing vulnerable horses from entering the auction pipeline, where they are at high risk of shipping to slaughter. 

We also work closely with law enforcement to rescue horses from severe neglect and cruelty cases. Every horse receives comprehensive veterinary and farrier care, proper nutrition, and individualized training before being carefully matched with a screened adoptive home. 

The Dorset Equine Rescue is proud to be the first horse rescue in Vermont accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), recognizing our commitment to the highest standards of animal care, transparency, and accountability.
