About Our Auction

When dozens of women joined a Facebook group to participate in a year-long daily feminist selfie project, we never imagined the community that would blossom. We call each other sisters, yet many of us have never met.

We have decided to organize two conferences in 2015 focusing on feminism. Logistically it will be difficult, as we feminist selfie participants live all over the world. But we would love nothing more than to meet each other and to work to advance the project’s goals. We want to help members create their own local groups that enjoy the same sense of community and support that we provide each other in our online space. We will invite a variety of speakers to the conference to help expand our knowledge on various aspects of feminism and community, and ultimately we hope to make this type of education available online, free of cost to all.

Help us raise funds to support two U.S. conferences in 2015: the first one in the Northwest in March and the second one in the Midwest in November! We hope to raise about $15000 per conference, starting with a goal for $2500 for this auction! 100% of funds raised through this auction will help with:
~travel & lodging expenses for participants in need of assistance
~hiring speakers and preparing presentations
~childcare for limited adult-only events

We're excited for our community to finally gather together in person soon and we deeply appreciate your help in making it happen!

About 365 Feminist Selfies

Our community stemmed from a single blog post by Veronica Arreola followed by the creation of a Facebook group for this project.

"Attention is power.

Of course, the self-portrait is an easy target for charges of self-involvement, but, in a visual culture, the selfie quickly and easily shows, not tells, how you’re feeling, where you are, what you’re doing.

In our age of social networking, the selfie is the new way to look someone right in the eye and say, 'Hello, this is me.'"
