About Our Auction

It’s time to warm up those bidding fingers again! We are pleased to present GALT’s 2022 Help the Hounds Auction. Our wonderful volunteers, fosters, donors and auction bidders have stepped up to the plate many times over the past two years to help us meet the challenges of an influx of greys from Florida and other sources, in the midst of a global pandemic. We have recently incurred some significant, unexpected medical expenses for our Injured Reserve Greys. GALT’s Help the Hounds Auction is placing the spotlight on three of these greys – Poppy, Maggie and Iris.

Poppy, who arrived at GALT as an owner surrender, developed a host of medical issues. Earlier this year she was diagnosed with an unidentified swelling on her left thorax that ruptured during an overnight vet stay, with the result of spending several days at MedVet Dallas, an emergency clinic. Upon her dismissal, she was diagnosed with a dislocated right hip. She had extensive surgery to put the hip back in place. Her expenses for surgery and meds have created a significant financial burden for GALT.

Maggie has been undergoing heartworm treatments for almost eight months. Iris, who has also been with GALT for eight months, has not started her heartworm regimen. She is still in boarding because we have not yet found a long-term Only Dog foster home for her.

GALT has already spent over $30,000 in medical expenses for Poppy, Maggie and Iris, as follows:

Poppy / MedVet Dallas: $19,290
Poppy / GALT’s main vet and specialty vet: $ 8,613
Maggie / GALT's main vet: $ 1,365
Iris / GALT's main vet: $ 1,194**

**Iris’s medical expenses are expected to be at least another $2,000 after she starts her heartworm treatments.

GALT is committed to covering all of the medical expenses for these three Injured Reserve greys until they are healthy and ready for their loving, forever homes! With your continued help, GALT can cover all of these medical costs, in addition to our regular operating expenses.

Please note that Jill, our other Injured Reserve grey, has been undergoing heartworm treatments for almost 17 months! However, Jill has a Blazer’s Guardian Angels sponsor who is covering all of her medical expenses, which currently total $2,148. We would love to see other “angels” step up for Poppy, Maggie and Iris! Please see the following link for more information about this special program:

PLEASE bid generously in our Help the Hounds auction. We have an exciting and unique array of jewelry, art, gift card packages and more! If you don’t want or need any “stuff” right now, will you consider making a donation of $25 or more in honor of one or all of our featured Injured Reserve greys? Please see the last three items in the auction – requesting Fund-A-Need (FAN) donations for Poppy, Maggie and Iris. Your continued support is GREYTLY appreciated!
