WCSFA 2019 Summer Silent Auction

The West Coast Science Fiction Association (WCSFA) hosts VCON, both Vancouver’s and Canada’s longest running fan convention. Started in 1971 by members of the Science Fiction Clubs at both the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, this event provides genre fiction fans and professionals alike the opportunity to come together in a friendly, casual atmosphere to share their passion for science fiction and fantasy.

But we need your help! Faced with the rising costs of convention space and equipment, we have begun several fundraising initiatives to help keep VCON ticket/membership prices at an affordable level for attendees.

Our Summer Silent Auction is just one of the ways you can help us raise funds. The items you see here were graciously donated by past special guests, other program participants, vendors, artists, WCSFA members, and local businesses. There are lots of geeky goodies and services available to be bid on, including unique items, autographed books, professional editing services, art commissions and more.

Additionally, for all but a few local services, bidders don't have to live in the Vancouver Metro area either. So long as you are willing to pay the shipping costs (or can make arrangements to visit the area to pick up items) we welcome your interest in what the auction has to offer.

So take a look, see what catches your fancy, and make a bid or two to support a good cause.

ADVICE TO BIDDERS:

The 32auctions platform has a feature called Extended Bidding in place. This automatically extends the end time of an item by 3 minutes when it receives a bid during the final 3 minutes. This process repeats until no new bids are received during the final 3 minutes of the item bidding window or the auction has been extended for a maximum of 30 minutes beyond the original end time. When an auction is extended, you will see Extended Bidding messages displayed throughout the auction with a link for easily viewing all of the extended items.

The Extended Bidding option is useful for deterring auction sniping (i.e., the process of entering a bid in the final seconds of an auction, leaving no opportunity for other participants to outbid the sniper).

But... this benefit only works to your advantage if you keep an eye on your bids near the scheduled end time (which is Sunday, June 30 at noon PDT) and are prepared to respond within the extra time if necessary..
