The Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial Fund has helped over 8,000 uninsured and under insured Alexandria women receive free mammograms and other diagnostic screenings. With your help, we can help many more!

All donations beyond the minimum bid will go directly to the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial Fund to continue her legacy of compassionate public service and fighting for a life well lived.

For more information on the Fund itself, please visit: https://www.alexandriava.gov/dchs/info/default.aspx?id=49382

TO PLACE YOUR BIDS, click on the green 'View All Items' button on the left side of the screen. Please note, there is just one item available for this particular auction (we unfortunately aren't able to modify it to say item, singular).

Donations directly to the Vola Lawson Memorial Fund are welcome (see Green Donate button at the top of the page), but a bid must be placed to win the VIP Dining Experience.

About Vola's Dockside Grill / ARP & The Vola Lawson Fund

Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP) was established in 2013 and has since grown to include seven local restaurants. In 2016, Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge opened on the waterfront, offering a relaxed and casual-style seafood restaurant and a retro-cool, hideaway bar for tourists and locals alike.

The restaurant was named after Vola D. Lawson, the first female City Manager, and the first woman to lead a large municipality in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Vola (d. 2013) was a much-loved and admired figure in Alexandria, VA; she was a fighter and a compassionate individual, combating corruption and cronyism in government, confronting racism and sexism in society, and battling breast cancer in her personal life.

In 1994, Vola established the Alexandria Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. Since its inception, the Walk has helped over 8,000 uninsured and under insured Alexandria women receive free mammograms and other diagnostic screenings. Due to budget cuts, the Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer was permanently cancelled in 2014, but to ensure that women who remain in need of critical screenings, the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial was established.

This online auction is a tribute to Vola's memory at her namesake restaurant, and in support of the fighters in our own community.
