About Our Auction

Solar Oregon was founded in 1979 as the Solar Energy Association of Oregon in response to the oil and nuclear energy crises of the late 1970’s. For over four decades we have educated communities across the state about the benefits of solar energy, energy efficiency, and decentralized power. Over this period our major programs have included How to Go Solar educational workshops, solar homes tours, advocacy, and Solarize campaigns. Solar Oregon collaboratively developed Solarize in 2009 to help a grassroots group of neighbors in southeast Portland go solar together more affordably, and Solarize campaigns have since been replicated across Oregon and around the world. Throughout our history, we have largely served homeowners and a general public audience, in both urban and rural parts of the state including southern, eastern, and coastal parts of Oregon.

Your support will help to propel Solar Oregon into the future. Your generous contributions will allow our organization to refresh our branding, redesign an intuitive easy-to-use website, and lay the foundation of our strategic planning for 2022 and beyond!

About Our Programs

Since May of this year, we've developed and delivered 3 culturally-relevant workshop curricula on energy topics (solar, energy efficiency, solar readiness) to a total of 12 African American homeowners in Portland through our partnership with the African American Alliance for Homeownership (AAAH).

Since the new year, we've delivered a total of 11 How to Go Solar workshops to 200+ homeowners across Oregon!

For the past three years, we've hosted an annual zero energy and "path to zero" homes tour, which in total has featured 29 new and existing homes and multifamily sites that have inspired 700+ Oregonians to consider solar and energy efficiency.

We are working to design and launch an innovative and replicable community solar development campaign that will result in 1-3 MW of solar installed in Oregon; provide at least 40% energy savings to ~300 low-income households; create full-time job opportunities for 4 individuals from BIPOC or low-income backgrounds; and bring together nonprofits, businesses, and building owners to celebrate equitable access to energy in Oregon.
