About Our Auction

The Sydney Story Factory is holding an exhibition of artworks themed around children’s books, called "Judge a Book, Buy its Cover".

The Sydney Story Factory – with the support of independent bookshops - asked people to vote for their best-loved children’s book and created a list of Sydney’s 50 favourites. Artists then chose one book and created either a new cover image for it, or an artwork inspired by it.

The works are being sold by silent auction at the exhibition and online, with all proceeds going to the Sydney Story Factory. There are no buyer premiums.

The Sydney Story Factory is a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people at 176 Redfern Street, Redfern. Our large team of volunteer tutors work with students one-one-one or in small groups to write stories of all kinds, which we publish in as many ways as we can. Our goal is to ignite the spark of creativity inside every young person, and give them the confidence and tools to find their own voice. We work with marginalised young people, particularly those from indigenous and non-English speaking backgrounds, but programs are open to everyone.

About Sydney Story Factory

The Sydney Story Factory is a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people in Redfern. It runs a wide range of fun and free creative writing and storytelling programs for marginalised young people aged 7 to 17. Under the guidance of its expert storytelling team, volunteer tutors work with young people one-on-one or in small groups, offering them the personal attention to their writing even the best teachers cannot always provide. The effect can be transformative, helping young people find their voice and returning them to school with the tools and confidence essential for future success.
