Build day sponsorship auctions
The house is going up in public. That is the fundraising object.

An affiliate's build is visible, dated, physical and photogenic, and it produces something that stands on a street for decades. Very few causes have a fundraising object like it, and the auction should be built around it rather than beside it.
What a company is actually buying
A corporate build day is bought for three reasons and a sponsorship item should speak to all three: employees who want to do something real together, visible community presence, and a story with photographs the company can use.
- A named build day for their team, with the affiliate's crew leading
- A materials package for one element — the windows, the roof, the kitchen
- Signage on the site for the duration of the build
- Recognition at the dedication
- Photographs of the day, usable by them
The photographs are the part most affiliates under-deliver and the part a company values most. Arrange a photographer for a sponsored day and it will be worth more than the item cost you.
Individual site experiences
- A day on site with the crew, taught rather than watched
- Signing the studs before drywall, with the homeowner's agreement
- A crew of volunteers for the winner's own community project
- A private tour of a finished house before dedication, where the homeowner agrees
- Working alongside the construction manager for a day
Every one of these needs the construction manager's sign-off, a safety briefing, appropriate footwear and clothing, and a defined role. A site with an unbriefed guest on it is a genuine risk rather than a paperwork problem.
Where the homeowner comes into it
The house belongs to the family who is buying it, and their build is not the affiliate's to sell access to by default. Anything that involves them, their house or their story needs their specific agreement, obtained without pressure, and it should be genuinely easy for them to decline.
Many partner families are glad to be involved and some are not, and both are reasonable. A family who declines should never be asked twice or have it noted anywhere that affects them.
Weather and schedule
A build day moves. Rain, an inspection, a delayed delivery, a subcontractor who does not arrive — any of it shifts a date, and a winner who took a day off work needs to know that in advance.
Put it on the item page: the date is arranged with the construction manager, may move for weather or site conditions, and here is the notice you will get. It costs a sentence and prevents the complaint this item otherwise produces.
Report it as a building
After the auction, photograph the element the money bought — the windows in, the roof on, the kitchen fitted — and send it to everyone who bid. Then send the finished house.
An affiliate can do something almost nobody else can: show a donor the thing they funded, standing, years later. Build the reporting habit that makes that possible and the second auction is a much shorter conversation.

Frequently asked questions
What should a corporate build day sponsorship include?
A named day with your crew leading, a materials package for one element, site signage, recognition at the dedication, and photographs the company can use. The photographs are the most under-delivered part and the part they value most.
What does a site experience item need?
The construction manager's sign-off, a safety briefing, appropriate footwear and clothing, and a defined role. An unbriefed guest on a site is a genuine risk rather than a paperwork problem.
Can we auction access involving the partner family's house?
Only with that family's specific agreement, obtained without pressure and genuinely easy to decline. Many are glad to be involved and some are not, and both are reasonable.
What if the build day has to move?
Say so on the item page before anyone bids: the date is arranged with the construction manager, may move for weather or site conditions, and state the notice a winner will get. It prevents the complaint this item otherwise produces.
