Sweet Briar College Alumnae Alliance

Join us for an online auction fundraiser organized by the Alumnae Alliance and benefiting Sweet Briar College! The monies raised from this event will help to address the neglect suffered by the College over a period of many years, and provide operational expense relief to rebuild the College’s endowment, ensuring that the College’s mission continues; to educate and empower women – in perpetuity. Learn more at www.sbc.edu

With your help we can achieve the goal for the NextisNOW campaign. The success of the auction is directly related to the high quality of items that are donated. Thank you in advance for being a supporter of Sweet Briar through a donation to the Auction! Donors of items for the auction may request a donation letter for tax deductible items with the College's 501(c)3 tax donation number. If you have any questions about receiving a tax-deductible receipt, please contact Sarah Lewis at (434) 381-6373. A donation to the online Auction, either physical or monetary (we use donated cash to buy additional items or to enhance existing items), goes a long way to helping Sweet Briar be sustainable in perpetuity.

Your gift of Auction item(s) is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, provided that you establish a written value for it at the time of donation. After the Auction has concluded, the College will send you a letter acknowledging your donation of the Auction item(s). Please consult with your own tax or legal advisor to determine what your allowable tax deduction will be, based on current IRS regulations: https://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Charitable-Organizations/Charity-Auctions.

Note: Per IRS regulations, there is no value printed on the tax receipt. For purchasers the tax receipt will be for the amount paid above the fair market value.
For example, if an item has a fair market value of $100.00 and it sells for $125.00, $125.00 will go to the Sweet Briar Fund but the purchaser will only get a receipt for a $25.00 donation. If a tax receipt is expected, there has to be a fair market value listed for the item.

Lastly, is shipping. The shipping is between the buyer and seller.

Should you have any questions, need help going through your attic or have an item, please do not hesitate to call Norma Valentine, 2016 Alumna Auction Chairwoman, at 803-522-2709.

About Sweet Briar College

Sweet Briar College was founded in 1901, the legacy of Indiana Fletcher Williams. Indiana left her entire estate to establish an institution in memory of her only daughter, Daisy, who died at the age of 16 in 1884.

More than a century later, Sweet Briar continues to empower and educate young women to build and reshape their world however their passions lead them.

At Sweet Briar, we focus on personal and professional achievement through a customized educational program that combines the liberal arts, preparation for careers, and individual development.

Our faculty and staff guide students to become active learners, to reason clearly, to speak and write persuasively and to lead with integrity. They do so by creating an educational environment that is both intense and supportive, and where learning occurs in many different venues, including the classroom, the community and the world.

Sweet Briar College is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia on 3,250 acres. It includes 21 buildings on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic District.
