Columbus Outdoor Pursuits and Olentangy Paddle are teaming up to offer the unique experience of watching the Red, White and Boom fireworks from the Scioto River during the celebration event held on July 1 in downtown Columbus.
The current launch location is at the Whittier boat ramp at the Lower Scioto Park. Boats will be available from 3:00 p.m. until 11:00 pm. It takes about 30 minutes to paddle into the downtown area. Due to the Greenlawn dam just south of here, there is very little current so the paddle upstream is easy.
All boats are single person recreational boats. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to future clean-ups of our waterways and to support Columbus Outdoor Pursuits boating activities. Let's make our goal of raising $10,000 for programming, boating lesson scholarships, and more!
For tax-deductible purposes, any bid over $40 will be considered a donation.
If you'd like to make a direct donation, you can do that too, just by clicking the donation button on the left or right side of the screen.
Olentangy Paddle and Columbus Outdoor Pursuitsedit
Olentangy Paddle's mission is to advocate for healthy waterways in Central Ohio, so we can maximize their recreational potential through kayaking and canoeing. We offer many ways to connect to the waterways - through Riverboxing (public art discovery on the Scioto), birding, paddling instructional classes, hosting paddling fundraiser events for various non-profits, river clean-up events, and new in 2016, our Lorax Discovery Camp for Kids.
