About 11th Annual Promise Auction Fundraiser

The Promise Auction has raised money for local Indigenous organizations for the past 10 years! If you are a 3L or 4L, you may remember it as a silent auction in the Rowell Room where you tried to scribble down higher bids than your peers, or a live auction in the Moot Court Room with lots of screaming numbers and raising hands. You may remember seeing promises that included Professor Jim Phillips’ Bike Tour of Toronto, Professor Essert’s Pizza Crawl, knitted scarves, Jiu Jitsu training, cake decorating lessons, photo sessions, a flattering Ultra Vires article, a Call-to-the-Bar in your name, and lots of baked goods. In 2020, we raised over $2,000 for the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society!

Last year, in light of prevailing COVID-19 constraints, we pivoted the Promise Auction toward a trivia night fundraiser. With all the incredible support from student, staff, faculty and alumni communities at U of T, we managed to raise over $6,000 across a number of incredible Indigenous organizations!

This year, we are excited to announce that the Promise Auction has continued to evolve and will now take the form of a Promise Auction Week, featuring both a week-long silent auction of promises offered by members of the U of T community AND a trivia night held the Wednesday of Auction Week where student, staff, faculty and alumni can come together and enjoy a night together from wherever you are.

Promise Auction 2022 will be raising money in support of the following organizations:
-Aboriginal Legal Services
-Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto
-First Nations Child and Family Caring Society
-Centre for Indigenous Theatre
-Indigenous Residential School Survivors’ Society
