About Prevent Child Abuse Iowa

Since 1975, PCA Iowa has been dedicated to raising awareness of child abuse and prevention while promoting effective education and support services. Each year, these services increase the likelihood that 50,000 children in more than 90 counties will grow up in the safe, nurturing environments they need to thrive. PCA Iowa is the only statewide non-profit focused on preventing child abuse and strengthening families, which research shows is a far more effective use of resources to ensure children reach their full potential than treating the effects of abuse after it has occurred.

Proceeds from this event will help grow PCA Iowa’s statewide efforts to lead advocacy and awareness efforts and continue to provide training and technical assistance to partners providing the following services:

Parent Development – Focuses on parenting techniques and age-appropriate behaviors while creating an informal, supportive network among attendees.

Home Visitation – Provides intensive one-on-one education between a provider and a family within the home. Connects parents to parenting information and community resources.

Sexual Abuse Prevention – Educates parents, community members and children about sexual abuse and how to prevent it.

Community Development – Projects that strengthen community capacity to serve families

Pregnancy Prevention – Collaboration with community-based organizations to provide evidence-based pregnancy prevention curriculum to the adolescent population.

Our network serves a high-needs population. Parents/caregivers served are less likely to own a home or be a high school or college graduate compared to the general population. 47 percent earn $20,000 or less per year, and 30 percent are single parents. These families face a high level of stress and lack of support that can make parenting difficult.

Without PCA Iowa’s support, the professionals we serve would not have the tools, training, resources and capacity they need to be effective in serving these families.
