About Our Auction

Championing women has long been our mission. Together with artist Bobby Clark, we're pushing for a better future.

The empowerment of women is at the foundation of Nobody Denim, ingrained as the denim we weave. It’s a commitment that extends from our workforce to the wider community, in collaboration with not-for-profits and organisations with values that align.

Among them is ethical gifting social enterprise, Mettle Women Inc. Conceived as a mechanism to end the cycle of abuse, Mettle Women Inc. provides women who are experiencing homelessness due to domestic and family violence with stable, paid employment and a chance to beat our country’s staggering statistics. In Australia alone one in three women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15. One in five women have experienced sexual violence, one in six have experienced physical or sexual violence by current or former partner and one in four have experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner. In support of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on November 25, 2019, we sought out likeminded people to help fight for a safe future for all women – including multidisciplinary artist Bobby Clark, whose works in collaboration with Nobody Denim will be auctioned with all proceeds donated to Mettle Women Inc. “I believe no matter what you have, always give back. Even if it’s just your time,” tells Clark. The photographer and visual artist, who hails from a small town in Scotland, is no stranger to the distressing impact that violence against women has on individuals, families and whole communities. “I’ve seen many women in my small community suffer at the hands of domestic violence,” she says. “I witnessed a lot of horrible abuse both against women and children growing up in a town where everyone ‘turned a blind eye’.” It’s perhaps due to these firsthand observations that Clark, now Melbourne-based, has made it her mission to “create a safe space for women to escape unsafe environments for both themselves and their children”. Nobody Denim’s creative collaboration with Clark came naturally.

To coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we commissioned Clark to create three original pieces of artwork on the back of our Downtown Shirt Jacket Linen. “I really [wanted] to focus on the simplicity of design with a single colour,” she explains of her process. “I decided not to come from a textile art perspective, [instead] stripping away functionality and approaching them the same as I would a painting. Each one depicting a composition of shapes that symbolise femininity, strength and individuality.

About Nobody Denim

We don’t make a lot of noise, but those who wear us, do.

Born in 1999 in Melbourne, Australia, Nobody Denim has long been celebrated for making women feel more confident in their world and in themselves.

Designed from the details up, we believe style is as much about the attitude as it is about the purpose – constantly refining and defining.

While our foundations lie in premium denim, today, our approach to design mixes understated ease with confident femininity to create a uniform of quality staples that bridge fashion looks with contemporary street style and its relationship to daily life.

We believe in the longevity of our country as much as that of our collections, which is why our longstanding commitment to ethical manufacturing principles offers a unique vision of responsible design.
