Mya Strong 2023

Mya Strong was created by our daughter Mya Gilchrist. Mya has been fighting braing cancer since she was 18 months old. Over the years many people have been very generous to our family and when Mya relapsed again in January 2019, once again our community rallied around all of us and began to raise money. One of those events was the 1st Mya Strong Softball Tournament that Mya's softball team organized for her in June 2019. Over the next year Mya was able to use that money and some money that others had donated to give back to organizations that have been very important to her, especially Children's Cancer Connection (Camp Heart Connection) and UIHC Dance Marathon. She has also said, "wouldn't it be cool if we could just write a check to families when they get the bad news about cancer? It would bring a smile to their face and maybe help with some of their stress." So that is what we did. Over the last years Mya Strong has donated to local families with new cancer diagnoses and has donated to UIDM, UIHC, Children's Cancer Connection, and Camp Heart Connection. Also, the Mya Strong character scholarship was started to honor local seniors for their kindness and positive attitude. Thank you for your support!
