About Our Auction

Welcome to the Art Auction Fundraiser for the Kawartha Art Gallery!
The works of Maurice Roberts have been generously donated to the Gallery with 100% of the proceeds going to support Kawartha Art Gallery's core operations and programming costs.

These watercolor paintings done between 1945 and 1965 by Maurice Roberts were donated to the Kawartha Art Gallery, both framed and unframed. The artwork captivates its observers with views of Southern Ontario areas, both rural and urban.

Maurice Roberts was born on June 23, 1888 in Amherst Island, Ontario to English parents, Canon the Reverend William Roberts and Sarah Elliot Roberts.
Maurice’s father was the Rector at St. Alban’s Church where the Roberts family continues to worship today. Canon the Reverend Roberts wrote hymns which continue to be used by the Anglican Church to this day.
Maurice Roberts passed away in January of 1966 in Toronto, Ontario.
He explored Southern Ontario and painted its landscapes, despite having no formal art training.
Kawartha Art Gallery remains eternally grateful to the generosity of both Wayne Robinson and Hudson Leavens for donating these wonderful pieces and creating this opportunity for the Gallery to now share the immense talents of Maurice Roberts with our community and beyond.

Come for a trip down memory lane to view these beautiful pieces or better yet take a piece home!
