About Our Auction

Full proceeds from the auction will benefit local seniors!

Funding the Heart for Music program which provides headsets, music devices, and customized playlists to isolated seniors living in nursing homes throughout BC.

Since launching in 2018, Heart For Music has lifted the spirits of over 100 residents living in BC's long-term care facilities. Funds raised will support the expansion of the program into more care homes across British Columbia.

Music is a proven form of therapy for seniors, particularly those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Research suggests that music can provide emotional and behavioural benefits for seniors such as stress relief, reduced agitation, and decreased anxiety.

About Rick's Heart Foundation's Heart For Music Program

Rick’s Heart Foundation is Surrey’s top charity for those struggling with addiction and homelessness in British Columbia and beyond. We strive to create a community built on compassion, partnering with some of BC’s best charities, providing services, and implementing programs to raise funds and lift the spirits of those in need and at-risk, both locally and globally.

Heart for Music provides music therapy for BC seniors living in not for profit long-term care facilities. From customized playlists bringing peace and comfort to live concerts offered right at their doors, Rick’s Heart Foundation is there!

COVID-19 has taken so much, loneliness haunts the halls of care home across the province and Rick’s Heart Foundation wants to help. A virtual auction has been launched to help raise funds to help bring Heart for Music to our elders, who are feeling more alone than ever.

“Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears – it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many of my neurological patients, music is even more – it can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity.”
~ Oliver Sacks, best-selling author and professor of neurology at NYU School Of Medicine

Each facility is provided with a technology device kit valued at approximately $1000. Donations from this auction will go directly towards purchasing this equipment so that we can expand the program into more facilities. Since launching in 2018, our program has been implemented at 16 facilities across BC and has seen tremendous results — providing emotional and behavioral benefits such as stress relief, reduced agitation, and decreased anxiety for seniors in isolation due to COVID-19.
