The Sunshine Coast Grandmothers and Grand Others ,with the generous help of 16 local artists, have taken 16 children's wooden chairs and lovingly turned them into works of functional art.
Our local Grandmother’s Group is part of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, stephenlewisfoundation.org. Our members are united by their commitment to support the work of African grandmothers who are raising a generation of children orphaned by AIDS. African Grandmothers are the centres of their communities, and their heavy workload is now compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. With few resources, they display astonishing reserves of love, courage, resilience, and hope.

From December 4th - December 13th you can bid on your favourite children's chair at any time of day. Just keep checking in as the bids increase. At the end of the auction, on Sunday, December 13th at 8 pm, you may be the proud owner of a delightful hand-painted children's chair, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your money has gone to a wonderful organization.

You may view the chairs in person at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery. You’ll be enchanted by these wonderful little chairs!

Scroll down, click "View All Items", and the chairs with names of artists will be displayed.

About Grandmothers & Grand Others

The Sunshine Coast Grandmothers and Grand Others supports the Stephen Lewis Foundation .

The Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) provides funding to over 125 community-based organizations in the 15 countries that have been hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic in Africa. The SLF partners with organizations who work in six key areas: children and young people, grandmothers, home-based care, ending violence against women and girls, positive living, and health and human rights for LGBTIQ communities.
Sub-Saharan Africa is currently experiencing a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ongoing intersection of the HIV and COVID-19 pandemics directly impacts our partners’ existing programs and services, and brings critical new challenges that are threatening the health, well-being, and safety of families and communities living with HIV and AIDS.
Your help is needed now ,more than ever, to keep vital programs in operation
Please refer to www.grandmotherscampaign.org for more information about the SLF.
