Gracias San Antonio: A Tribute to Ideas

As part of the Civic Engagement Initiative, Pre-K 4 SA students and their teachers say “Gracias San Antonio” for a wonderful year of learning with a Children’s Art Exhibit. This annual exhibit reflects the educational philosophy, focus on civic education and the strong commitment Pre-K 4 SA has to the San Antonio community. Children from across all four Education Centers have been engaged in the process of collaboratively creating authentic art and their pieces will be exhibited at the Cinnabar Art Gallery in the Blue Star district April 13-17. In the spirit of children helping others, all pieces will be auctioned and all proceeds will be used to support non-profit organizations voted for by the children through their annual Gracias San Antonio election. Through the children's active participation in the election process, they learn that their voice counts and through the art they create they are able to support the chosen organizations and give back to the community that gave them the gift of Pre-K 4 SA while building a foundation in civic engagement. This year's Gracias San Antonio recipients are:

North Education Center: San Antonio Humane Society
South Education Center: San Antonio Pets Alive
East Education Center: Camp to Success
West Education Center: Animal Care Services

Pre-K 4 SA is a full-day prekindergarten program for 4-year-olds living in the City of San Antonio. Pre-K 4 SA is free for qualifying students and also accepts tuition-paying students. The school day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Before- and after-school care is also available at no additional charge from 7:15 to 8 a.m., and from 3 to 6 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and two snacks are included and free transportation is available to all students. Pre-K 4 SA has four Education Centers located throughout the city: North Education Center, 3635 Medical Dr.; South Education Center, 7031 S. New Braunfels Ave.; East Education Center, 5230 Eisenhauer Rd.; and West Education Center, 1235 W. Old Highway 90. The Pre-K 4 SA Professional Development program provides early childhood educators in San Antonio with complementary best teaching skills and practices in pre-kindergarten through third grade in order to exceed state-mandated student learning outcomes while focusing on the whole child.
