About Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana
The Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana, EAL, was established in 1977 to provide services to individuals living with epilepsy. Since that time, EAL has continued to meet the needs of the community we serve. EAL is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people living with epilepsy and providing them the tools needed to succeed. EAL is based in Baton Rouge but serves the entire state. Our largest event in Baton Rouge, Seize the Day, started as a small advocacy event and has grown to reach an average of over 1600 people each year.
Over the years, EAL has added many new programs and expanded the reach of these programs including SPOKES (Support for Parents of Kids with Epilepsy and Seizures), which allows parents to build a community among themselves; Seizure First Aid and Safety Trainings, which trains community members on the importance of seizure recognition and first aid; Support Groups, which provide a connection to others battling epilepsy; and Case Management, which connects clients to needed resources within their communities. EAL currently has three full-time staff members and 50 volunteers, which assist with different events throughout the year. We annually serve about 4,000 people through all our programs.
