About Esperanza Shelter
Esperanza has provided domestic violence services in SF County since 1976. We are the only domestic abuse agency in our county. Our mission is to shelter those threatened by domestic violence and to support healthy relationships.
The need to support our services to continue this legacy is more critical than ever, as participants continue suffering deeply through this pandemic. Many are experiencing feelings of isolation, employment challenges, barriers to receiving federal assistance, shortage of housing options, anxiety, and depression. Youth report increased bullying at school, anxiety, and depression. These high-risk victims have complex needs and require longer than average emergency shelter stays. These challenges—and the expenses of running a 24/7 emergency shelter—have created a significant funding gap between our needs and what we receive from local, state, and government agencies.
We have a crucial funding goal of $327k in our budget that must be raised this fiscal year. We are stretching our goal to $500k to keep critical services open for victims of domestic violence both today and tomorrow.
Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.
