About Save The Rhino International /SRT Namibia

At the turn of the 19th century there were approximately one millions rhinos. In 1970, there were around 70,000. Today there are only around 28,000 rhinos surviving in the wild.

In the 1980's and 1990's poaching was pretty well brought under control but since the mid 2000's, poaching has exploded. From 2000 to 2008, in South Africa, about 15-25 rhino were lost per year to poaching. In 2009 the figure was 122, rising to 668 in 2012 and over 1000 in 2013. The rhino is threatened as never before.
