About Our Auction

The Daigleville School has a very special place in UHN tribal history. The former school, located at 8542 Main Street in Houma, Louisiana, offered the first public school option for Houma Indian youth prior to integration in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. Converted to an Indian Only School in 1952, it afforded the first group of Houma youth to graduate from a public school in 1964.

The building later ceased to function as a school, but remained in the care of the Terrebonne Parish School Board who leased it for other public service. However, over the last 15 years, the building has fallen under disrepair from lack of use. In 2015, the UHN and the Terrebonne Parish School Board entered a lease agreement for the UHN to take over this building for tribal purposes. As such the building is in need of some TLC and we hope you consider helping. Our goal is to raise $10,000 initially towards that effort to make the building inhabitable again.
