About Our Auction

This is a fundraiser in Vermont for the Capital City Grange in Berlin and the Barre Historical Society (Old Labor Hall). The items for auction are from the extensive contra dance skirt collection of the late Marj Power of Montpelier. The auction was suggested by Marj's son and daughter as a way to honor Marj's memory, since these two organizations were dear to her heart. Items are in excellent condition and of high quality. Marj was an enthusiastic contra dancer, not only in Montpelier, but also across the Northeastern U.S. and beyond. She was a founding board member of the Capital City Grange Hall and an officer of the Grange from 2006 to 2019. She was active in the Contra Dance Umbrella in Montpelier, which organizes and hosts regular contradances. She was a founding member of the Board of the Barre Historical Society and major participant in the restoration of the Old Labor Hall in Barre, built by granite workers in 1900. The proceeds of this fundraiser will be divided between the Grange and the Old Labor Hall.

In addition to the skirt collection are a collection of dance T-shirts that were part of Marj's collection as well as other items, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, and books from the Old Labor Hall. A beautiful children's quilt has been donated in honor of Marj's grandchildren.
