Chase Fadley Benefit

As part of the 2016 Charlottesville Dogwood Festival, the 5th Annual Dogwood Benefit Breakfast will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Holiday Inn-University. The “May the Force Be With You” Benefit Breakfast will honor 10 year old, Chase Fadley. All proceeds from this online auction will go to Chase and his family.
This is Chases story as told by his parents. At the age of 9, Chases battle began. On April 16, 2015, he noticed a spot the size of a bug bite on his leg. Within 24 hours it had grown to the size of a half dollar. After a trip to the ER and two doctor visits, Chase tested positive for a staph infection. During that time, he spiked several fevers which prompted his physician to order a blood test. At 7:47pm on April 20th, we received the phone call that changed our lives forever. Chase had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Chase spent 10 days in the hospital after the initial diagnosis. 5 days were in the PICU so they could closely monitor him. Once he was stable, he spent 5 more days on the floor. For the next three weeks he had very intense therapy and by day 32, Chase was in Remission! He was free from Cancer. Leukemia is a blood cancer. The cells can remain dormant inside his body, so even though he is in remission, there is a chance they can return. Because of this, he will continue treatment until August of 2018.
Chase has handled every spinal tap, bone marrow aspirate and constant chemotherapy with nothing but courage, strength and resilience. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy can cause many side effects, some can be very severe. In December, 2015, Chase was admitted to the hospital with debilitating headaches. After 5 very long days, the doctors discovered blood clots in his brain, most likely caused by one of the chemotherapy drugs he received a few weeks before. After 10 days, he was able to come home. Even with this new challenge he has been faced with, Chase pushes through and continues to be an inspiration to us all.
Our hope for Chase and our family is that we grow stronger together. We will take this horrible time in our life and do something positive with it. We have to believe we were given this life to help others. We ARE going to help others. Once this crazy rollercoaster ride is over, we promise to do something amazing with what we have learned along the way. Thank you for fighting with us, thank you for fighting for our sweet Chase.

Sincerely,
Jenne Garrett
