About Complex Chronic Illness Support Inc.
For 45 years, Complex Chronic Illness Support has been a lifeline for people living with complex chronic illness. Today, we are facing an unprecedented funding shortfall that threatens our ability to continue providing essential services. Despite our long-standing role we receive no government contract or baseline funding. Instead, we rely almost entirely on philanthropic grants and community donations — a model that has become increasingly unsustainable as funders face unprecedented demand. New Zealand has one of the highest numbers of charities per capita in the world, largely because government investment in long‑term condition support has not kept pace with need. Organisations like ours are filling critical gaps in the health system, but we’re doing it without stable funding. The result is that essential services are at risk. This year, several major grants that CCI Support depends on were declined, not due to concerns about the organisation’s work, but because funders are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of applications. For many members, CCI Support is the only place where they feel understood and supported. Chronic illness often brings isolation, financial hardship, and limited access to tailored health services. CCI Support provides connection, information, and advocacy that are not available elsewhere in the health system. Our services are not optional extras, they are essential for people who are navigating complex, lifelong health challenges. Without us, many will fall through the cracks. CCI Support is calling on the community, philanthropic partners, and government agencies to recognise the urgency of the situation and the vital role the organisation plays in supporting people with long‑term conditions. Despite living with debilitating conditions, our members are resilient and creative. We have launched this public silent auction featuring artwork and handmade items created by our members, not only to raise vital funds, but to celebrate our members. So please support this vital cause, which helps hundreds of people throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and their families navigate their long-term conditions. We have been here for 45 years, with your support, we can continue to be here for the next 45.
