About Assabet Valley Mastersingers
Established in 1978, AVM has featured over 80 composers, including American and New England premieres and commissioned works. The group actively engages young musicians, collaborating with Algonquin Regional High School and Worcester Children’s Chorus, and offering an Apprentice Singers Program for high school students.
AVM’s innovative concerts have included Sunrise Mass (Gjeilo), Mass for the Children (Rutter), Voices of Light (Einhorn), and Annelies (Whitbourn). The ensemble also explores socially relevant themes, performing works like Beatitude Mass: For the Homeless (Mollicone) and Dona Nobis Pacem (Vasks).
In 1989, Assabet Valley Chambersingers was established to provide community outreach. This eighteen-member ensemble has presented varied programs of secular, sacred, and popular works to nursing homes, library arts series, art show openings, and special community programs in collaboration with area churches.
Membership in AVM is diverse, representing over 20 towns. Some singers are professionally trained, while others have only school or church choir experience. Members purchase their own music, pay annual dues, and participate in fund drives to support the organization's operating budget.
