Sales from this art auction go to support the Periwinkle Arts in Medicine Program. The mission of the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine Program at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers is to provide enjoyable and educational art activities that give children, young adults, families and caregivers affected by pediatric cancer and blood disorders the opportunity for self-expression, empowerment and healing through the arts.

Artistic activities by and for children create opportunities for self-expression, empowerment and development of coping skills. Making music, singing songs, performing dance, producing plays, writing and telling stories, and decorating spaces with visual art enhances the healing environment and treatment experience. The Periwinkle Arts In Medicine Program provides art exposure in a variety of settings including outpatient and inpatient care areas.

Key components of the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine Program include; art education, art activities, guest artist series, outreach and Making A Mark®, presented by The Periwinkle Foundation, an exhibit or art by children touched by cancer and blood disorders. The exhibit is open to children from all pediatric cancer treatment centers, and has attracted art and writing submissions from around the world. To highlight Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we have been proud to display more than 200 entries each year since the first exhibit in September 1991. Past exhibits have been shown in Japan, Washington, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and numerous cities throughout the state of Texas.

As the Baylor College of Medicine Graduate Student Council, our mission is to represent the interests of our fellow students to the administration and other student bodies. Further, we are committed to organizing events which engage students with each other’s research and facilitate student involvement in the Texas Medical Center community.
