In the spirit of gastro-diplomacy, international chefs & food-adjacent personalities are banding together for #AskChefsAnythingBeirut to benefit those in desperate need after the August 4th port explosion that killed 220 people, injured 6,000+ and displaced at least 300,000.

Lebanon was already facing a refugee crisis, economic plight, regular power cuts, lack of safe drinking water, limited public healthcare, high unemployment, and protests. And COVID-19 infections have stretched the capacity of hospitals to provide services.

Worldwide figures will auction off 30-minute virtual chats to winners.

All funds raised will benefit Beit el Baraka, a 501(c)(3) secular, non-political Beirut-based charitable organization repairing thousands of homes, rehabilitating essential shops and offering medical and psychological support. Founder Maya Ibrachimah will also purchase meals from Kamal Mouzawak’s soon-to-launch community kitchen at the epicenter of the disaster.

When the auction closes, each winner will receive an email from the organizers to coordinate the call with their elected chef.

Calls will take place over Zoom; the organizers will create that URL and share it with the winner and chef.

The #AskChefsAnything campaign was launched in April of 2020 to raise awareness and funds for the community most impacted by the COVID crisis within the US restaurant world: the immigrant workers. The enterprise was so successful in New York City that satellite fundraisers have been held in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami, St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Nashville and Houston cumulatively raising over $180,000, enabling us to deliver 165,000 meals.

Now, with #AskChefsAnything x Beirut, the first international instance, the same paradigm will directly benefit those in desperate need in Lebanon’s capital.
