About Our Auction
Moth Ball is the annual fundraising party for AAZK ZNE (American Association of Zoo Keepers, Zoo New England chapter). Our chapter is dedicated to Excellence in Animal Care. We accomplish this through professional development for animal caretakers and support for deserving conservation work.
This year we raised over $4000 for rhino conservation with our Bowling for Rhinos event. Our Trivia Night and Karaoke events supported the big cat conservation efforts of Panthera and ALTA-- because we love big cats and we cannot lie.
We award up to $500 as a scholarship to our members, to help our animal caretakers to be the most professional staff possible, and to constantly improve the standards of captive animal care. We bring in monthly professional development speakers, to broaden the horizons and deepen the knowledge of the zoo community.
This fundraiser is to ensure that we can continue our work--we need to pay to recharter our chapter, rent event venues, provide snacks at events, and various other expenses. WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS. None of our members or board of directors is paid for the time and hard work we put into this organization, which allows us to efficiently use funds to their best effect.
Zookeepers are passionate, hardworking, and usually just scraping by, financially. AAZK ZNE allows the zoo staff to join with the greater community to do good for the world's wild creatures and to become the most skilled and compassionate caretakers for the precious living things in our care. Thank you for your support!
