About Our Auction

The Wayside Inn Foundation’s Summer Auction will run from Friday, August 5th at 6:00 pm until Friday, August 12th at 9:00 pm. Proceeds support Phase II of The Foundation’s “Rediscovering the Red Horse” effort to create an archives and research center at the historic Gate House at The Wayside Inn. Phase II will help us acquire equipment and archival supplies and furnishings needed to properly store and protect our historic collections.

The new center will inspire new thinking about old history by encouraging opportunities for:
• Improved access to our archives and streamlined collections management and care;
• Active research;
• Dynamic engagement with history through renewed interpretation of The Wayside Inn’s historic assets; and
• Program development for all ages -- students, families, and adults.

Legendary tales. Timeless history. Relevance Today.

As a nonprofit organization, The Wayside Inn Foundation receives no regular funding from the town of Sudbury, the state of Massachusetts, or any federal monies for its operations or property maintenance and instead relies on donations, grants, and bequests to carry out its mission. Your participation in the summer auction will help The Wayside Inn Foundation create a dynamic and functional space for staff to work, visitors to learn, and for protection of our resources.

Area residents and businesses have contributed over 100 items and services to the auction, as have several of The Wayside Inn Foundation’s trustees and staff. We appreciate our auction sponsors: GOLD: The Eppy Family and Main Street Bank; SILVER: Lit Dental Esthetics & Implant Center and Mark T. Wendell Tea Company; BRONZE: Steven and Melissa Battista, Katina Fontes, Half Axe, Sara and John Ho, Ken's Foods, Inc., Michael McCluskey, Persephone Flowers, Roche Brothers/Sudbury Farms, Sewataro, and Sudbury Bees LLC; PEWTER: Avidia Bank, Bearly Read Books, and Donna Moy-Bruno, Results Realty New England.

We thank everyone who has generously donated items, gift certificates, and services. We are grateful to all of you who are considering bids. We hope that you will find something special, and we thank you for your support.

About The Wayside Inn Foundation

The Wayside Inn owns a varied collection of antique furniture, books, maps, records, letters, personal items, ephemera, and other historic objects dating back to the early 1700s. Some items are on display in and among The Wayside Inn’s historic buildings, but the bulk of the collection sits in storage. Sharing the collections with the public and telling the broad ranging stories of The Wayside Inn is a key goal of The Wayside Inn Foundation’s Strategic Plan. The Foundation now has an opportunity to improve the current conditions of the archives and by doing so will create a vibrant center for active engagement with our holdings. This is an exciting time for The Wayside Inn, but additional funding is critical to getting the job done properly. You can help us by participating in this auction. The Foundation is grateful for your support.

The Wayside Inn is a nonprofit charitable Massachusetts corporation created in 1944 to own, operate, and maintain the Wayside Inn Historic Site, a campus of 9 historic buildings on more than 100 acres. Its mission promotes early American humanities through hospitality, education, and programming, and continues an innkeeping tradition dating back to 1716. The site provides an opportunity for visitors from near and far to gather, engage, and find meaning, relevance, and inspiration through a place-based exploration of history. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the Internal Revenue Code.
