Action for Animals

Veterinarians without Borders/Vétérinaires sans frontières is a Canadian organization that has worked for more than 15 years to improve the health of animals and people in disadvantaged communities around the world. Funds raised through this auction will help smallholder farmers in Asia and Africa to improve the health of their animals, producing more food and income in the process. VWB also works in the Canadian North, bringing veterinary services to remote communities.

Veterinarians without Borders/Vétérinaires sans Frontières (VWB/VSF) is unique among Canadian International Development Organizations through its focus on reducing poverty and hunger and improving the health of people by addressing the health and welfare of animals.

VWB/VSF was created by veterinarians and continues to engage veterinarians in its work, but it also draws on the skills and expertise of people from other professions, including other animal health professionals as well as rural development experts and gender specialists.

VWB/VSF’s international development work is built on the philosophy of ecohealth -- the conviction that the health of animals, humans, and ecosystems are inter-related. By improving the health of animals, VWB/VSF is consciously working to improve the health and livelihoods of people, and is vigilant to ensure that the effects of its activities either improve the environment or, at a minimum, do no harm.
