Healthy Animals, Healthy People

The Healthy Animals, Healthy People auction is part of our annual effort to raise funds for our development work in Canada and around the world. Whether it is working to avert a famine in South Sudan, helping poor women raise Guinea fowl in Ghana, raising crickets as a protein source in Laos, sending skilled volunteers to half a dozen countries in Africa and Asia, or supporting animal health activities in remote communities in Northern Canada, VWB/VSF is dedicated to improving health and nutrition for humans by focusing on the well-being of animals.

Veterinarians without Borders/Vétérinaires sans Frontières (VWB/VSF) is unique among Canadian International Development Organizations through its focus on reducing poverty and hunger and improving the health of people by addressing the health and welfare of animals.

VWB/VSF was created by veterinarians and continues to engage veterinarians in its work, but it also draws on the skills and expertise of people from other professions, including other animal health professionals as well as rural development experts and gender specialists.

VWB/VSF’s international development work is built on the philosophy of ecohealth -- the conviction that the health of animals, humans, and ecosystems are inter-related. By improving the health of animals, VWB/VSF is consciously working to improve the health and livelihoods of people, and is vigilant to ensure that the effects of its activities either improve the environment or, at a minimum, do no harm.
