About The Ivy School a Public Montessori Charter

Founded in 2009, The Ivy Montessori School in Portland, OR celebrates 10 years of educating hundreds of grade 1 through 8 students in a Free, Public Montessori learning community. We inspire children of diverse backgrounds to be lifelong, independent learners who value responsibility and embody peace.

Montessori Education has traditionally been private and cost prohibitive for many families. The Ivy School challenges this notion by offering Free, Public Montessori Education for all children and families, 1st-8th grade. Enrollment in The Ivy School is by Lottery Drawing.

Every student of The Ivy School will be given equal educational opportunities regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, color, national origin, disability and marital status. The Ivy School does not limit student admission based on ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, disability, gender, income level, proficiency in English language or athletic ability.

We believe in Free, Public Montessori education. The basic idea in the Montessori philosophy of education is that all children carry unseen within themselves the person they will become. In order to develop their unique physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual powers to the fullest, they must have freedom; a freedom achieved through order and self-discipline. Choosing a Montessori for your child means making a commitment to living towards these ideals, making a commitment to education for peace, education for life.
